  1. The wind had no breath making me drown in my sweat as I was playing a challenging fun game calle Tennis ball drop. Tennis ball drop is a game that you'll enjoy. All you need is a rope, a bucket, a tennis ball and four or more players. How you play this game is really simple. All you need to do is stand opposite your partner as each on hold an end of the string. Roll the ball on the string and put a bucket in the middle and all you have to do is get the tennis ball to roll into the bucket. The most tennis balls you get in the bucket the more you win. So far that was a really cool game and my favourite game out of all the others.
Leaders, leaders, leaders. Leaders was all that day was about and what I learn't from that day was how to be a leader. Leaders do not only lea they also have to follow. LEaders don't have to be older than you, they can be of any age.
My dislikes about this day were the sandflies everywhere and the spider web game. The spider web game involves your whole team where members have to lift one person at a time in a hole without touching the string/we. BEtween our activities we had a break which meant a drink of water and lunch - which of course was one of my favourite parts of the day.
Without the Maia team (Fasi & Cullen), we wouldn't have been able to have this amazing day and wouldn't have been able to throw sponges at the teachers. Thanks guys!! It was great pay back. We year 7 & 8s have a big thank you.
A way to make it better is to include more challenging activities.

  2. Dashing out of the bus door, I couldn't wait for leadership to begin. The theme was 'camouflage' and it was held at Finlayson park. Leadership is a day where all the year 7 and 8s participate in different activities to learn to be a leader and to work as a team - with students from other classes.
We set our mats under thet tents and planted our bottoms to the ground. I looked to my left and a bunch of people stood there watching us. Later on, Fasi from the Maia team came up and told us these people were our leaders for the rest of the day.
He introduced one fo the them neamed Junior. Junior told us that their team are from Te Wangana o Aotearoa. He explained to us our whole programme and the rules. Their leader began us with a prayer and later we were split into groups.
Each group had a leader and we all started at different stations (activities). We battled each other through each activity and they were all challenging. They tested all of our leadership skills, before we had lunch.
After the prayer, we had our lunch and rested. This was the first time I mixed and mingled with other students, apart from Tupulaga. And it was an explosion of fun. We played and played until we all leaked with exhaustion.
But suddenly, Junior called us in and told us they have a surprise for us. He told us this was going to be the first time we students get a chance to throw sponges at the teachers beautiful faces. All the students jumped up and down with joy! Each group took turns throwing and everyone laughed non stop. But the worst teacher was Matua Des. Sponge after sponge was thrown at his face.
After that amazing surprise, we all sat down and said our goodbyes to our wonderful leaders. The bus slowly drove in and we all hopped on. That was the best day ever!!
Spending the day there I learnt a lot of things. In order for me to be a leader, I have to be a follower. I also learnt that working as a team, having cooperations and trusting each other can really be useful in acitivities or games.
I also learnt that mixing and mingling with other students can me more fun than you think. Some activities were cool and some were boring, but I think the reason why is because I didn't participate fully.
But overall, that day was a day I will always remember.

  3. Yaye, it's leadership day. Drowning in my excitement as I jump into the buz, I gaze at all the year 7&8 students from CPS at Finlayson Park field.
Fasi and Cullen, students helpers were the facilitators for each activity. They were all fun. My 1st group was Faith, Losana, Riah, Jessie, AIsea and the others. Our first activity was section2. On activity 2 we learnt how to listen to the leader and how to communicate with each other. THen we moved to section 3. What I learnt about activity 3 was to work together with each other, listen to everybodies different ideas and work together as a team. After that we moved to activity 4. Now this one was the funniest because the eladers Ibi and Waii told us funny jokes and had the funnies game. We got to compete with each otehr - boys vs girls. I got to know different year 7&8s from different classes.
I'm so glad I went to Finlayson park. I now feel like I'm a true leader. I hope we go back next year to do it again!

  4. On the 4th of April 2014, CPS (year7&8) went to Finalyson park. Lots of students look like they just came back from the army with their camouflaged suties. Some of the look like they came from a funeral with their black suits.
Fasi (Maia leader) introduced the leaders for our games. There were lots of different kinds of games. I didn't know most of the games. My favourite game was the spider web.
At Finlayson park it was so fun becuase I was communicating with other people and working as a team. What I liked most about leadership was when we had fun throwing sponges at the teacher's faces.

  5. Great recounts, everyone - I really liked your use of descriptive language. My favourite phrase was from Kehaolani - "drowning in excitement". What an amazing way to say how excited you were!
