  2. On a sunny day at the zoo we walked along the bridge to see the aniamls. As it was 10:50am Richrd called us into the room to learn more about endangerd species. As we sat down he started to talk about the endangered aniamls in the rainforest like tigers, insects and more . He also talked about our kiwi .Our kiwi is an endangered specie because of other aniamls from other countrys that hunt them like cats, dogs, rats and more .He told us diffirent kinds of traps like the nature traps and other big traps. He showed us a video about a kiwi coming out of its egg . Richrd said that the zoo keep the baby kiwi's so it can grow and then they take them back to the forest.

When our session finished with Richrd we went with our groups to eat and look around at other aniamls.

At the zoo I felt over the moon because I was able to see diffirent types of animal form different contries. I also felt tired afterwards from all the shouting, walking and running.

  3. 1.Did you know that kiwi's are endangered species in NZ because animals from other countries like stoats, possums, dogs, cats and rats. Try and hunt them also their eggs for food. If you hit or poke a kiwi's chest, it will die. A guy name Richard at Auckland zoo showed Room 1 a rhino's horn that was made out of nails. If you didn't know? Spider monkeys cant touch their feet on the ground but they use their hands and tail to swing around the trees. Richard popped up a picture of Charlie the orangatang. I learnt that orangatangsb has special faces because it's like a speaker. For example when he communicates to his friends, it's really loud. Richard had some dangerous traps that could some animals heads off. They help trap pests in your backyard.

    2. A girl name Ashley, walked inside with a colourful bird name Buddy. Buddy came from Australia and people brought him to NZ to live in Auckland zoo. Ashley clips Buddy's wings so it cant fly away. As soon as Ashley speed off. Richard was telling us that possums can give birth to 12 babbies. Isn't that shocking!! Most animals lost their homes and habitats in the forest.

    3. While I saw the alligators at the zoo, I learnt that alligators can stay underwater for 8 hours and that amazed me!! Poor people kill animals like lions, tigers and cheetahs for their fur to make blankets and clothes for the rich people. They also use their fat to make lipsticks.

    4. I really enjoyed this journey at Auckland zoo with my group. It was fun learning about endangered species from Richard! He really helped Room 1 with our learning!

  4. Laughing shouting running walking playing and sweating was all i was doing. I was excited to go to our zoo trip. Drowning in my excitement as i jumped into the bus.

When we got to the zoo we scrambled with my group: Faith Latoya Vera Luina Pila Ropati and our parent helper-my mum, We saw different kinds of animals like elaphant zebra flamingo cheaters lion tiger red panda's orangatans baboons and many other animals.

Richard (zoo keeper) told us all about the endangered species, one of the endangered species was the Kiwis. I learnt that Kiwis freeze when they see smell or hear an animal like a stoat approaching them, Kiwis wont fight back they wont run but they will just stand there like statues. Richard the zoo keeper also told us about how the Kiwi hatches from its egg. The Mother lays its egg then leaves, after that the father looks after the egg until its starts hatching, so the father go's and leave the egg to hatch by itself. I also learnt that Cheaters and Leopards are endangered species because they have been killed by poor people who use animals to make purces, clothes shoes and many other things for the rich.
IM SO GLAD I WENT TO THE ZOO IVE LEARNT NEW THINGS ABOUT ENDANGERED SPECIES AND I ENJOYED WATCHING THE ANIMALS WAVE AT US. :)

  5. Quietly and slowly we entered a room which seemed to be filled with all sorts of animal. Without losing another second, I grabbed my chair and sat down with my eyes still fixed on the screen which had a picture of a rainforest.to start our session first Richard (the zoo keeper) explained the habitat of animals in the rain forest and why they live there. Tigers live on the ground where there’s a lot of food, bird’s live on trees where it’s safe and where they can locate food. Some of the animals are endangered because they are losing their habitats. Problems like that are caused because of us humans. The more trees we cut down the worse it will become for the animals like monkeys, pandas and other plant eaters. Because they will have no place to live or any food to eat. After they cut down trees from one side of the rainforest they cut down more trees to make a passage. This makes room for hunters to easily enter the rainforest to hunt the animals that live there, leaving a lifeless rainforest without trees or animals. Instead of leaving the rainforest to continue on living, axe men burn the areas they excavate to renew the soil. People don’t see that there are a lot of animals suffering because of this.

Next we talked about NZ species. The flightless kiwi was the main animal we talked about. We learnt that kiwi stays stiff in front of an unknown animal which makes it easy for stoat, rats or mice’s to attack them. We also learnt when a female kiwi gives birth the male kiwi looks after the egg and the female kiwi leaves. As soon as the egg starts to a hatch the male kiwi abandons it to search for food. Next we talked about stoats. It is said that stoats were brought to NZ to kill rabbits, but the problem was they were too lazy so instead of catching rabbits they decided to steal kiwi’s eggs for food. Most stoats bury their food so when winter comes there’s food for them to eat. But what they don’t know about NZ was that we had no ice winters that were likely to affect their chances of finding food. So they find more that they eat.

After sitting on those on those soft pillow chairs we got to look around the room and feel some of the animal’s fur. I was amazed of how soft their furs were. We also got to see real tadpoles swimming and leaping in the water. We even got to see and touch the rhino’s horn which is made out of the same things our nails are made of. We even got to touch a bird which is able to pollinate flowers that bees can’t. Richard explained to us how it uses it tongue and beak to get the pollen. It then spreads the pollen around to other flowers.

Helping endangered species was our next topic. Richard taught us about traps and how we could use it to trap pests. Some were big some were small. They were all made to trap small animals like rats, mice, stoat’s even bosoms. The only problem was that they could only trap one animal in each trap. There was one which was able to reset after it traps one animal. All these traps were safe and allowed them to die a humane death. A humane death is when something is killed without it feeling any pain.

Before we finished another zoo keeper arrived with a colourful bird, its name was Buddy. It ate a grape while it was on Ashley’s (the zoo keeper) hand and made loud squeaky sounds. They said this animal was very curious so they clipped its wings so that it can’t fly into other animal cages. When all the talking and listening was finished we were finally released to our groups to explore the rest of the zoo.

At the end of our session, I was really understood why they had to kill those pests, I was really happy they had to set those traps and kill all those pests. From our session with Richard, I learnt why all these animals are endangered and what we could do to help them.

  8. Slowly passing through class, I felt like a bubble of joy. Because on the 26th of March, Tupulaga were going on a trip to the Auckland zoo. I dashed out the bus door, and anxiously waited for the rest of the classroom.
As I strolled through the entrance, I could already hear the animals. We were split into group and began our journey to the amazing giraffes, the stripy zebras and the odd shaped ostriches. Next were the massive rhinos, the generous turtles and the cute baby elephants. We also spotted fearless tigers, furious lions, cheeky spider monkeys and hungry hippos.
The clock struck 10:50 and we raced to the meeting pole to wait for our session. Planting our bottoms on the beanbags, a man named Richard began to tell us about endangered species.
Did you know the main reason why species are endangered, is because of us humans. We poach them to make products and burn or cut down their habitats. I also learnt that a rainforest has a ground level, primate level and a top level. New Zealand have endangered species too like the kiwi. The reason why is because, animals from other countries are hunting and feeding on our animals. Animals like stoats, rats, possums, cats and dogs. Spider monkey's can spend their whole lives in trees so if we cut them down they won't be able to survive. Even tigers who hide in trees to hunt so if we cut their tees they can't hunt and they will starve to death.
One way we could help save endangered species is by setting up traps so we can get rid of non native animals (pests). Another is by funding and raising money for donations towards endangered species and doing conservation work, which means preserving or restoring our natural environment or wildlife.
Some interesting facts I learnt was that monkeys have no thumbs so they use their tails to swing from tree to tree and a rhinos horn is made out of the same material as our finger nails.
Later on our time was up and so was our trip at the zoo. The sun began to set and the energy began to fade away. Quietly walking out the entranceway, I remembered all the fun things we had done at the delightful place.

  9. Room 1 learnt about Endangered species. At the zoo there was lots of different animals from different countries. They put the animals in the zoo because they are endagnered species. These animals are endagnered because of habitat loss and poaching.
Did you know that you can kill a kiwi if you hit it on the chest with two fingers? It will die because kiwis don't have wishbones. Leopards, tigers and cheetahs are hunted by hamns for their feathers to make clothes and blankets. The zoo have traps to kill the stoat and the possum because they are killing out native birds and stealing our native bird's eggs.
Did you know the animals in the zoo are endangere by us humans because we cut down the trees and the poor animals that live in the trees lose their habitat. Another reason why is because the trees we burn after we cut it. Some animals are suffering from the carbondioxide that we produce that goes in the atmosphere to keep Earth warm, but if we produce too much carbon dioxide there will be an over load of this gas. Earth will get too hot.
The zoo is a good place for endangered species because it provides a good habitat and good food. It was so cool. I felt happy because I learnt something and I wish you learnt something too from reading this.

  10. At the zoo we learnt some things from Richard (zoo member) who took us for a session about endangered species. Kiwis are one of them. Every since the pests like dogs, cats, stoats and possums came to NZ, the kiwis population has gone smaller because they are getting killed. Kiwis are not too strong. You can use two fingers to hit the chest and it will die instantly because they don't have a wishbone to protext their chest.
In the Indonesian Rainforest there are 4 levels. The first leve is where the tigers are, the second level is where the reptiles are, the third level is where the praimates hangout and on top of all that are the birds. The rainforest is the habitat of all these animals.
Asian elephants don't grow tusks and the African elephant are on the edge of extinction. The orangutan are 10 times stronger than a human adult and they can rip a human in half. These animals are also endangered because their habitats are being destroyed.
Some interesting facts: IT is natural when two cheetah males hangout even when they are brothers. That is called a coalition. Giraffes can run fast like a car and their tongues are 45cm long.
This trip was an amazing trip with all the explanations about the animals, what they eat and where they are from. I felt a little sick from the smell of faeces but the zoo trip was the best trip ever to learn about how we can be responsible citizens.

  11. Where do you think the Samoan unit of CPS travelled to Here are some options a)The sky tower b) The zoo c) Totara park. If you selected b) you are right. THe zoo was where we flew to in a bus to learn about our topic Endangered species. This relates to our main topic 'Our universe, our planet, our world, our responsibility.
10:50 was the time to go in our session with Richard (zoo keeper) and off we walked into the room full of different types of creatures. So far from that really interesting session I've learnt that Kiwis freeze when they hear or see an animal coming. They will never run, hide or try to fight back. Another thing I've learnt about kiwis is that when a kiwi is hatching, the parents are never there to watch or help them out of their eff. Kiwis are a very endagnered species because stoats, possums, cats and dogs always poach the kiwis and their eggs and like I said, teh kiwis will just freeze or just stand there like a statue.Orangutans are also an endangered species because humans have been cutting down their trees which they live in and where they find food. Elephant are hunted for their horns by poachers - again humans - sheesh!
Another endangered specie is the cheetah. Why? Because humnas kill them and use their fur to decorate and design clothing which is very sad. What people don't know is that they are burning the rain forests and not realising that it takes 1000s of years for them to grow back again.
During our session with Richard he told us about these different tupes of traps that could trap the creatures that are endagnering our animals.
